Message from the Chancellor: Heeding COVID-19 Guidance

Dear Rutgers University – Newark students,

As the impacts of COVID-19 grow even more visible across New Jersey in the coming days, you are likely to hear about members of the Rutgers-Newark family, whether on campus, in our residential setting, or in their home communities who are infected with the virus. This unfortunately will become more common in people we know as the virus continues to spread throughout communities and confirmed cases are identified as testing is made more available.

I am writing to assure you that when a case of COVID-19 is suspected or identified among the Rutgers-Newark community, we adhere to a process established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the New Jersey Department of Health to manage and investigate the concern. Rutgers Housing maintains quarantine in residential spaces, should it be required, and Rutgers Environmental Health and Safety is working to ensure all of our spaces are safe.

We urge all students to heed Governor Murphy’s “Stay at Home Order,” practice social distancing, self-isolate, and contact your health care provider if you feel sick. If you are on campus and you are not feeling well, please contact Rutgers–Newark Student Health Services at 973-353-5232 or stuhlth@newark.rutgers.edu. If you need support or assistance from staff, please contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at 973-353-1037.

Please read through the FAQs link about COVID-19 and testing for additional guidance:

We are all here to help as we get through this ever-changing situation together.

Sincerely,

Nancy Cantor
Chancellor
