Update on the Canvas Outage

Rutgers University-Newark Community,

We are following up on our communication from last night, Thursday, May 7 regarding the postponement of Friday, May 8, 2026 final exams for undergraduate students.  As our teams continue working together to support the Rutgers University–Newark community, we would like to share an important update regarding final exams scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2026.

First, we recognize that this period is stressful for many students, faculty, and staff.  We sincerely appreciate the care and flexibility you are showing during this time.

Graduate Final Exams
All Rutgers University–Newark graduate students were asked to connect directly with their faculty of record and, where appropriate, their program directors for guidance regarding final exams and academic expectations.

Undergraduate Final Exam Day Rescheduled to Thursday, May 14
All Rutgers University–Newark undergraduate final exams scheduled for Friday, May 8 are now rescheduled to Thursday, May 14.Undergraduate students will take the exam during the same time as scheduled for May 8. We expect that locations for the rescheduled exams will be the same. Undergraduate students and faculty are encouraged to stay in contact with each other for updated information.  Students can look at the Student FAQ page for answers to many of the questions on their mind.

Faculty Guidance
Faculty should consult their Department Chair or the Dean’s offices if they have questions about the rescheduling of May 8th final exams to May 14th.  We ask our faculty to be as flexible as possible with students and to take into consideration the shortened window to access study materials in Canvas.  Faculty can review the Faculty FAQ page for answers to many of the questions they may have.   As a reminder, faculty have access to REGIS and may download class rosters as needed.

During this time, we encourage faculty and senior administrators to continue working closely with students and to approach these circumstances with understanding and care.

Our colleagues in Student Affairs are also available  to support students in several ways including access to the Counseling Center (973.353.5805) beginning Monday at 9 am for in-person and virtual appointments, and U-Will online counseling which is available this weekend and 24/7 at  https://app.uwill.com or via phone at 833.646.1526 for teletherapy or crisis counseling.

Please continue to monitor your email closely for updates.
