Alumni Profile: With a new master's degree in governmental accounting, she lands job of overseeing Vermont town's financial operations

While working full-time in the finance department for the City of St. Albans, VT, Sarah Macy began her studies at Rutgers Business School in the Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting program.  Offered entirely online, the program allowed Macy to earn her master degree while living and working in Vermont.

"The Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting program has been a catalyst in my transition from team member to team leader," said Macy.  Since graduating in 2015, Macy secured the position of finance director for the Town of Milton, VT.

The finance department is responsible for the administration of the Town of Milton's daily financial activities, including operational budgets, payroll for town and school employees, payments to vendors for products and services provided to the town and school, and much more.

"The technical expertise gained from the program has been invaluable to my professional development, illuminating opportunities which otherwise would have seemed impossible," continued Macy.  "This should be the gold standard for municipal finance professionals."

Program Director Irfan Bora said, "the Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting program actively works with the Government Accounting Standards Board and other leaders within the world of government financial management to ensure a curriculum that is real-world focused and provides students with the best preparation for advancing their careers in this specialized area of accounting and auditing."

Ranked #14 in the nation according to the 2016 US News & World Report ranking for "Best Online Graduate Business Programs," the Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting is the first and only program of its kind available entirely online, exclusively at Rutgers Business School.
