Make Rutgers University in Newark Your ‘Jazz Central ‘ For Talks, Concerts and More

When it comes to jazz, Rutgers University in Newark can be your one-stop source for great concerts, discussions on jazz, exhibits and of course, the world’s largest jazz archives. The campus has announced another great schedule of jazz concerts, talks and exhibits for the 2012-2013 academic year, all of which are open to the public and free.  The Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies (IJS) also is again teaming up with radio station WBGO-FM 88.3 to present its “Jazz from the Archives” radio series, which is broadcast on WBGO-FM 88.3, every Sunday, 11 p.m. - 12 a.m. The series is produced and hosted by the IJS.

SPECIAL HOMECOMING TALK AND PERFORMANCE, Sept. 25. 25, 6-8 p.m., Dana Library, Dana Room

Jeff S. McMillan, a graduate of the Rutgers-Newark Master’s program in Jazz History and Research, will discuss his forthcoming book on the famed singer Billy Eckstine. Jazz vocalist Carrie Jackson will perform Eckstine’s music along with a trio of musicians including: Alan Rosenthal on piano, Thaddeus Expose on bass, and Earl Grice on drums.
