Research Week: Keynote Lecture

For our Keynote Lecture for Research Week 2026, we welcome John R. DePersenaire, Director of Government Affairs & Sustainability for Viking Yacht Company. Join us on Monday, April 6th, at 11:30am in Engelhard Hall, Room 100, where DePersenaire will present "Unlikely Bedfellows: Whales, Yachts, and Criminologists" -- the story of how corporations, conservationists, and researchers came together to leverage artificial intelligence, satellite imaging, and crime prevention software to monitor whale movements and prevent deadly and costly collisions.

For more information about DePersenaire, this project, and his collaborators, please visit our Keynote Lecture link tree. This lecture will be enjoyable to everyone across disciplines, and especially to those interested in Earth and Environmental Sciences, Criminal Justice, Zoology, and AI. We can’t wait to see many of you there for a great conversation!

Research Week, a celebration of research at RU-N, is held every spring. Research Week 2026, scheduled for the week of April 6th, is co-sponsored by the Honors College, the School of Arts and Sciences-Newark, the Graduate School-Newark, and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
