Black Boy Joy Conference
On Monday, February 16, we are bringing together Black middle school, high school, and college students for a full-day Black Boy Joy Conference at Rutgers University–Newark—a space rooted in healing, creativity, mentorship, and collective joy.
Sponsored by the Chancellor’s Office and curated by faculty, staff, students, and local nonprofit leaders on the Black Boy Joy Conference Committee, this conference centers the full diversity of Black boyhood and manhood, including African American, AfroLatino, AfroCaribbean, African, multiracial, and LGBTQIA+ identities.
What to expect:
✨ Small-group workshops & roundtables (10–13 students per group)
✨ Creative expression workshops such as DJ classes, Spoken Word, Photography and more!
✨ Barbershop conversations on masculinity
✨ Rutgers Student-led college access & mentorship conversations
✨ A safe, affirming space grounded in vulnerability, authenticity, and joy
In response to the mental health disparities impacting Black boys and men, this interactive, student-centered experience creates room for healing, self-expression, and identity exploration—while uplifting expansive, affirming representations of Black masculinity.
