Talks By Pulitzer Winner Eward P. Jones, Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey, Among Others, This Spring
Once again Rutgers-Newark’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program will bring nationally renowned authors and poets to campus –including a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and the United State Poet Laureate -- for a series of readings and discussions, all open to the public free of charge. “These are readings from literature, poetry, fiction, nonfiction, by some of the most prominent writers in America, as well as new, emerging voices,” notes Jayne Anne Phillips, director of the MFA program. “The Series reflects the diversity of our campus and the excellence of the Rutgers Newark MFA Program.”
The Writers at Newark Reading Series programs all take place Tuesday evenings, 5:30 -7:30 p.m., in the Paul Robeson Campus Center (PRCC), 350 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., in either the first-floor Paul Robeson Gallery, or the Essex Room, Room 231, on the second floor. SPRING 2014 WRITERS AT NEWARK READING DATES
Feb. 18, novelist Andrew Solomon (Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression, Far from the Tree: Parents, Children and the Search for Identity) and poet Richard Blanco (Looking for the Gulf Hotel and City of a Hundred Fires).
March 11, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Edward P. Jones (The Known World, Lost in the City) and United States Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey (Thrall, Native Guard).
April 15, Poet and author Matthea Harvey (Modern Life, Sad Little Breathing Machine) and novelist George Saunders (The Tenth of December, CivilWarLand in Bad Decline).
