Note to Media: You are welcome to cover this event, which is not open to the public

You don’t need a midlife crisis to be overweight, have high blood pressure or high cholesterol; those health risks impact many college students.

For more than a decade, Rutgers University- Newark has worked to change that, sponsoring an interactive and informational fall health fair to demonstrate fun, tasty and healthful life choices to students, faculty and staff.

WHAT:  The 13th annual campuswide RU Healthy Fair promotes fitness by educating students (and employees!) about good health.  Participants can get free massages, test their knowledge of health facts, and take part in fitness activities to get hearts pumping and muscles moving. Also on tap: a performance by UNITY Theater, informational exhibits, free nutritious snacks, giveaways and a BBQ sponsored by the  Rutgers Student Veterans Organization. Open to RU students, employees with IDs.

WHEN:  Wed., Oct. 7, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

WHERE: Norman Samuels Plaza, entrance from University Avenue, between 175 University Ave. and 195 University Ave.  RAIN LOCATION: Golden Dome Athletic Center, Warren Street and University Avenue, Newark.

WHY:  Many college students eat too much junk food, get too little sleep and exercise, and experience stress; family health history also might put them at risk.  RU Healthy alerts students to health dangers through free screenings, fun activities and healthy snacks.

WHO:  Activities, prizes and exhibits will be offered by various RU-N departments and service providers, including the Health Center and Pharmacy, Athletics and Recreation, Paul Robeson Campus Center, Housing and Residence Life, Public Safety, Rutgers Dining, the Student Health Advocates, and UNITY Theater; community and government agencies will provide vital information about available health resources.
