Rutgers–Newark Law Professor Anna Gelpern Joins International Financial Reform Commission of Academic and Policy Experts

Newark, NJ – Anna Gelpern, Associate Professor of Law at Rutgers School of Law–Newark and a member of the core faculty of Rutgers–Newark Division of Global Affairs, has joined the Warwick Commission on International Financial Reform. The Commission, which is coordinated by the University of Warwick, Coventry, UK, brings together economists, political scientists, and lawyers from both the scholarly and policy areas. Members will explore avenues for building consensus to reform the international financial system in the wake of the global financial crisis. The first Warwick Commission, on the future of the multilateral trade system, released its recommendations before the World Trade Organization and at other high-level policy meetings.

Professor Gelpern is recognized for her research on the legal and policy implications of international capital flows. She writes and speaks extensively on debt, development, and financial globalization. Her article “Public Symbol in Private Contract: A Case Study,” co-authored with G. Mitu Gulati of Duke Law School and published in the Washington University Law Review, was selected for presentation at the 2007 Stanford-Yale Junior Faculty Forum. More recently, she has been a frequent speaker, media commentator, and invited blogger on the current financial crisis. 

Professor Gelpern is a visiting fellow at the Peter G. Peterson Institute for International Economics. Before joining the Rutgers faculty, she was an international affairs fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, served in legal and policy positions at the U.S. Treasury Department, and practiced with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York and London. 

Professor Gelpern earned an A.B. from Princeton University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and Political Science. At Rutgers Law School she teaches courses in International Law, International Finance, Commercial Law, and Contracts.
