Dance + Games + Education = ‘Fit 2B Happy’ Fair For Students At Rutgers University-Newark

Editors: This April 9 event is not open to the public but you are invited to cover it.

The spring 2014 “Fit 2B Happy” fair continues the Rutgers University-Newark tradition of promoting healthy student lifestyle choices through an interactive, educational yet entertaining program that encourages fitness.

WHAT:  Informative games and displays, health screening, free nutritious snacks, giveaways, an “RU Dance Off” competition with $150 and $100 prizes, and activities designed to get students on their feet and moving.

WHEN: April 9, 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

WHERE: Norman Samuels Plaza (between University Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and between Warren and Bleeker streets). Rain location: The Golden Dome Athletic Center, Warren Street and University Avenue.

WHO: Open to students, faculty and staff with RU IDs, free of charge.

WHY: Many college students eat too many unhealthy foods, get too little sleep and exercise, and generally make poor health decisions. But since 2002, Rutgers has been educating students to health dangers such as obesity, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, through interactive health fairs offering free screenings, fun activities and healthy snacks. Education is the most important element, with demonstrations and exhibitions offered by various Rutgers University-Newark departments and service providers, including the RU-N Health Center and Pharmacy, Student Health Advocates, Athletics and Recreation, Paul Robeson Campus Center, Housing and Residence Life, Public Safety, and UNITY Theater, among others. Community and government agencies also participate as exhibitors, providing vital information about available health resources.
