Arcelio Aponte

Arcelio is the Senior Vice Chancellor for Administration, Economic Development and Chief Financial Officer for Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N).  In this position, he manages RU-N’s annual operating budget and financial transactions.  Arcelio is also the lead administrator for RU-N development and works to expand academic and community services through property development, facility enhancement, and transportation improvement.

Before joining Rutgers University-Newark, Arcelio served as Director of Operations and Management for Economic and Housing Development in the City of Newark.  He provided management leadership for economic development, city planning, housing, workforce development, and ex-offender reentry.  He led the development of the City’s new Master Plan and created the Newark College Freshman Institute and College Internship Program.    

As a member of the New Jersey State Board of Education, Arcelio also served as the President of Board of Education form July, 2011 to July, 2014 and served as the Associate Vice President for Facilities and Construction Management at New Jersey City University.

Arcelio earned an MBA from Rutgers University and an Electrical Engineering Technology degree from The College of New Jersey.  He and his wife, Susan, are proud parents of two children, Arcelio and Elissa.
