I began looking seriously at colleges in my sophomore year in high school. I learned a lot about colleges, and I listened to my counselors’ advice to always look for outstanding qualities in colleges in addition to academics. So, when I saw that Rutgers-Newark stood out in being the most diverse school in the nation, that fact immediately attracted me.
Over the past four years, I have met people from all over the world, with all types of personalities. As a participant in the Urban Education program, as well as a Political Science major, I have found that the diversified Rutgers has truly helped me think outside of the box. Here, you are not only taught about people from all over the world, but you are able to interact with them on a daily basis. They bring in points of view that are unlike what I may have thought before the new relationships I have created. Culturally, religiously, and socio-economically, the student body is a great source of information. The Rutgers-Newark atmosphere really allows you to understand the world around you a lot more, and has really helped me understand urban schools better as well as the political situation in the United States and around the world.
Not only are the students diverse, but so is background of the faculty. Many members of the faculty have not only studied at some of the finest institutions, but have been around the world and are able to relate their experiences to the text they are teaching. The faculty at Rutgers-Newark strengthen this campus and the students’ education.
After the 3 1/2 years that I have been here, I can honestly say that I have not once regretted my decision to come to this school. I am truly proud to study at Rutgers University-Newark.
