Carpentry
- The Facilities Maintenance Unit handles basic repairs of existing
walls, doors, windows, shelving, and cabinets.The construction
of new walls, shelving, cabinets, and similar carpentry projects
are considered special work order requests.The Physical Plant
Department repairs or replaces damaged flooring and window treatments.
The Physical Plant Department maintains no budgetary
responsibility for furniture, except in the case of classrooms.
The department, however, can offer advice and assistance for
minor repairs to furnishings.
For minor furniture repairs, contact the Service
Desk at ext. 5441.
For major repairs, including re-upholstering, or to purchase
new furniture contact the Campus Purchasing Office, ext. 5338.
Disposing of Furniture
Prior to the disposal of any campus-owned furniture, the department
chairperson/division director must notify his/her assigned business
officer to delete the item from University inventory.
Furniture still in useable condition should be
directed to the University Surplus Sales and Disposal unit at
233-2-2255 (732-932-2255).
To dispose of furniture which is no longer useable,
contact Salvatore Palatucci, Supervisor of Grounds, ext. 5774.
Electrical
Service/Alterations -The Facilities Maintenance unit
of the Physical Plant Department is responsible for all electrical
installations, repairs and alterations on campus. Such work
is assigned and limited to appropriately licensed and trained
personnel.
Heating/Air
Conditioning/Indoor Air Quality - The Utilities Operations
and Maintenance unit of the Physical Plant Department is charged
with providing the campus community with proper heating/cooling
and ventilation within campus buildings. As part of that charge,
the unit strives daily to maintain the temperature in all campus
buildings between 70-74 degrees. For special events that require
maintaining the temperature within the designated comfort range
during times when the campus normally would be closed, please
provide at least 72 hours advanced notice to the Service Desk
at ext. 5441.
Plumbing
- The Utilities Operation and Maintenance Unit of the Physical
Department maintains all plumbing on campus. Broken pipes should
be reported to the Service Desk, ext. 5441.
Emergencies
-Emergencies include fire, flooding from plumbing failures,
roof leaks, electrical hazards, elevator malfunction, security-related
problems, and research equipment failure that either presents
a safety or health hazard or seriously interferes with on-going
research. Less serious problems which do not present an immediate
health or safety hazard, are considered "urgencies" and should
be directed to the appropriate contact person. Call ext. 5441
in cases of emergencies during regular business hours and follow
the instructions given. This line is closely monitored. During
non-business hours, call ext. 5111, University Police. (Business
Hours 8:15 AM - 4:30 PM) In case of fire, pull the nearest fire
alarm, vacate the building, and call University Police, ext.
5111.
