A Statement About Peaceful Protests at Universities Around the Nation

Dear Rutgers University–Newark Community Members,

As the nation continues to grapple with the profound and complex meanings behind recent incidents that speak starkly to ways that race continues to matter in everyday life in America, so does the Rutgers University–Newark community.  As a remarkably diverse, urban research university that is an anchor institution in a remarkably diverse and vibrant city of such great promise, we embrace our academic and civic responsibility to bring our voices to the “public square” on issues of such importance.  We support all members of our university community individually and collectively in doing so peacefully and respectfully.
