Expert on Sentencing Can Provide Insights into Holder’s Policy Changes
US Attorney General Eric Holder has announced major changes in sentencing procedures for prisoners convicted of federal crimes. Rutgers-Newark criminal justice expert Todd Clear is available to provide expert insight into Holder’s ideas.
Clear, who is Rutgers Dean of Criminal Justice and Interim Chancellor of the Newark NJ campus, is an expert on sentencing reform; he has written three recent books and several papers on mass incarceration and the link between sentencing policy (especially for drugs) and mass incarceration. He also has studied the public safety impact of policy changes in sentencing, and his book on the topic will be released in October. He was honored this week by the Volunteers of America for his work in this area.
