Halsey Street Festivities + Express Newark Grand Opening = A New Era in Downtown Newark
Clear your calendars and head to Halsey Street in the Newark Arts District next week. Between May 4 - 6 visitors can enjoy a slate of outdoor festivities as well as the grand opening celebration of Express Newark, a university + community collaborative space for arts, culture, learning, entertainment, and entrepreneurial opportunity for Greater Newark’s residents located in the second, third and fourth floors of Hahne & Co. Building, 54 Halsey Street.
The excitement on Halsey Street begins on May 4, 5 p.m.- 9 p.m. with Cinco de Mayo Eve an outdoor experience hosted by Hahne & Co. Cinco Eve will feature performances from Mariachi Oro de Mexico. Enjoy soulful sounds from The Jack Moves from 6-9 p.m., a traditional Mexican dance from Esperanza Azteca Group during the band break at 7:20 and DJ'ing courtesy of Rutgers WRNU Radio. Savor local flavors from Whole Foods, Green Chicpea, Burg, 27 Mix, NICO Kitchen + Bar and more.
On May 5, 4 - 8 p.m., venture to Express Newark for its grand opening extravaganza at the Hahne & Co. building, 54 Halsey St. The grand opening features an arts and humanities lecture by Newark’s own Dr. Nikki Greene, Assistant Professor of the Arts of Africa and the African Diaspora at Wellesley College, live DJs, tours of the three story arts space, interactive multimedia workshops, family friendly activities, print making, and a social media takeover.
