An Opportunity to Participate in Newark's New Arts Incubator -- Express Newark

Express Newark is a new initiative of Rutgers University–Newark (RU-N). It provides an interdisciplinary learning space where artists and community residents can collaborate, experiment, and innovate in partnership with RU-N’s faculty, staff, and students to engage in creative practice, foster democratic dialogue, and promote positive transformation.

Housed in the former Hahne & Company flagship department store in the heart of downtown Newark, Express Newark and the RU-N Department of Arts, Culture & Media seek to fill a portion of this state-of-the-art facility, known as the Community Media Center (CMC), with Newark’s best and brightest video producers for an initial term of six months, subject to renewal. The open invitation goes out to all individuals (other than RU-N students, faculty, and staff) who reside, and businesses and non-RU-N-affiliated organizations that are located, in the Greater Newark area.

The CMC includes hi-tech equipment (e.g., studio monitor speakers and iMac personal computers with Retina 5K display) and systems, and advanced software applications (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, and others) needed to produce high-quality videos. The CMC also offers mailroom, reception, conference, meeting, editing, and production spaces, as well as a sound room. Access to the sound room is subject to availability and will be scheduled in collaboration with the CMC video production program staff. The conference room is equipped with a large-screen monitor, audio system, and iMac personal computer with Retina 5K display for playback.

All CMC occupants will be responsible for their own tech support. They also will be required to make presentations of their work to RU-N students and, schedule permitting, allow students to observe during edit sessions. Moreover, CMC occupants may allow other non-RU-N students, faculty, staff, and organizations to use the CMC on a short-term basis for intermittent assignments. Such short-term use will be subject to proper supervision at all times by the CMC occupant and in accordance with CMC and Express Newark policies and procedures.
