Route 280 (Westbound)
- Directions are the same as from the NJ Turnpike, above.
Route 280 (Eastbound)
Route 21 North
- Route 21 becomes McCarter Highway in Newark.
- At junction of McCarter Highway and Raymond Blvd., (you will
see the Don Pepe restaurant in the distance on your right.)
turn left onto Raymond Boulevard.
- Make a right at Broad Street (but not a sharp right).
- Take Broad Street to West Park Street.
- Make a left onto West Park Street and then a left onto Halsey
Street.
- Make a right onto Warren Street.
Route 21 South

- Proceed to the New Jersey Turnpike and follow directions for
the NJ Turnpike, above.
Option 1:
- Take Exit 58A toward RT-21/US-22/NEWARK, and then take US Routes 1 & 9 to Route 21 North/McCarter Highway.
Follow directions for Rt. 21 North, above.
Option 2:
- Take Exit 56 toward Clinton Avenue, making a left onto Hillside Ave., then a right onto Clinton Ave.
- Go about a mile, then make a left onto Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
To Center for Law & Justice (Office of the Chancellor):
- Proceed straight on M.L.King Blvd to Warren Street and make a right.
- Proceed on Warren St. to Washington Street (second left)
- Turn left onto Washington Street. The Center for Law and Justice will be on your left.
To Offices of Admissions and Other Student Services:
- Proceed straight on M.L.King Blvd to Warren Street (5 blocks) and make a right.
- Proceed to the first traffic light and make a right onto University Avenue. You will see
Blumenthal Hall on your right, directly past Alumni Field.
To Parking Deck I:
- Proceed straight on King Blvd. to Central Avenue and make
a right.
- Proceed to the 1st traffic light and turn right onto University
Avenue. You will see the Parking Deck on your left.
To Paul Robeson Campus Center:
- Proceed on King Blvd. about four blocks; Robeson Campus Center is on the right, at 350 King Blvd.
To University Square:
- Proceed straight on King Blvd. to Central Avenue and make a right.
- Continue for 1 block to University Avenue; University Square is on the corner of Central and University Avenue.

Rail
- From Harrison, Jersey City, Hoboken, NYC:
- PATH train to Penn Station, Newark
- AMTRAK (1-800-872-7245; www.amtrak.com) and
New Jersey Transit (973-275-5555; www.njtransit.com)
trains also stop at Penn Station-Newark. Please call the appropriate number for scheduling and fare information.
- From Penn Station-Newark to campus:
You may walk to campus (about 15-20min walk)
OR
Take a taxi (cabs line up just outside the waiting area of Penn Station)
OR
Take the Newark City Subway (entrance is by McDonald's) to Washington Street (2nd stop).
- From Broad St. Station:
The Rutgers-Newark campus is only a four-block walk from the Broad Street Station, or a short ride on the free College Town shuttle service, which connects the Broad Street Station with the center of the campus (drop-off at University Ave. and New Street Plaza). Service available every 10 minutes, M-Th., from 9am – 5pm. View Shuttle map.
Newark City Subway/Newark Light Rail:
From Newark Penn Station, ride the Newark City Subway two stops to Washington Street and you're on campus. Or, take the Newark Light Rail, which connects Newark Penn Station with the Broad Street Station. (To view a Newark Light Rail map)
Buses
- Greyhound (1-800-231-2222) provides service to Penn Station-Newark.
- New Jersey Transit Bus Routes serve Union, Essex, Morris, Passaic, Bergen and Hudson Counties, as well as NYC, to Newark.
