Out in Newark! Queer Club Spaces as Sanctuary
A public, intergenerational discussion of LGBT club life in Newark. Our city’s clubs, bars, parties, discos, and ballroom houses were sites of LGBT solidarity and sustenance. “Sanctuary” honors this history by using the history of queer club spaces to uncover and celebrate the remarkable resilience, caring and creativity of queer Newark residents. This panel discussion is part of a broader, month-long celebration, “Sanctuary: A History of Queer Club Spaces in Newark,” a joint production of the Queer Newark Oral History Project at Rutgers University-Newark and Yendor Productions.
