On March 27th, from 4 to 6pm, Dana Library will host the program, “Modern Calligraphy and Calligraphers,” to accompany the current exhibition, “Fran Manola: A Scribe’s Life,” in the Gallery. Students and friends of Fran who have pieces on display will offer demonstrations of calligraphy. There will also be viewings of the video, “The Illuminator,” featuring the English calligrapher, Donald Jackson, who is official scribe and calligrapher to the Crown Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In the video, Mr. Jackson is shown working on the illuminated Bible commissioned by St. John’s Abbey in Minnesota. Program attendees will have the opportunity to try various calligraphic styles by tracing examples provided by the artists. Light refreshments will be served.
