This colloquium is the second of the Spring 2013 Gender and Violence Colloquium series. Dr. Janie Leatherman provides a critical discourse analysis of gender violence in war and conflict situations and how the notion of "safe space" is lacking in the discussion.
Dr. Janie Leatherman is Director of International Studies and Professor of Politics at Fairfield University. Her publications include Sexual Violence and Armed Conflict (Polity 2011) and Discipline and Punishment in Global Politics: Illusions of Control (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008); among many others. Her research covers conflict, gender and violence, sex-trafficking, foreign policy, and transnational politics.
