Community/Campus Connections
Diversity in and out of the Classroom

The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development, in partnership with the new Profeta Urban Investment Foundation at Rutgers Business School, Inc., is assisting in the revitalization and renaissance of the City of Newark by providing seed money to establish business enterprises owned and operated by members of Newark’s minority communities.

Rutgers School of Law–Newark in 2008 celebrated a central fact of the law school’s history – its commitment to racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and gender diversity and its role in changing the face of the legal profession in New Jersey. The event was, appropriately, called "Celebrating a 100-Year Tradition of Diversity: Reflections on Its Success."

Because Rutgers’s home city in Newark is also home to one of the largest populations of Portuguese-speaking citizens in North America, its Portuguese and Lusophone World Studies Program sponsors cultural and educational programs such as conversations with José Eduardo Agualusa and José Luís Peixoto.
