Speaker Bios
P.K. Scheerle, RN
Rutgers College of Nursing

Rutgers University is proud to welcome P.K. Scheerle, RN - Nurse Entrepreneur, as the speaker for the College of Nursing convocation ceremony.

Scheerle, a registered nurse with a clinical background in pediatric intensive care, is an entrepreneur who recognized a need in the profession to keep experienced and talented nurses at patients' bedsides. Utilizing her vision and determination, she has acquired and led many fast growth companies to provide nurse supplemental staffing throughout the United States. The companies under Scheele’s leadership have received numerous awards including the American Business Ethics Award from the New Orleans Society of Financial Services Professionals, recognition from New Orleans CityBusiness for 11 consecutive years as a Top 100 Business, and a second-place ranking from Working Women's Magazine as one of America's Top 500 Women-Owned Businesses.

Scheerle serves on numerous public, private and not-for-profit boards. She served as chair of the Young Presidents Organization for Louisiana (YPO) and is a member of YPO's Southern Regional Board and the Board of Directors of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Scheerle also is the founder and chair of the Great 100 Nurses Celebration, an event that has been honoring nurses in Louisiana annually since 1986.

Recognized for her many contributions to the community and the nursing profession, Scheerle is an honorary member of Sigma Theta Tau and a Virginia Henderson Fellow. She has been a recipient of the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Southeast Chapter of the American Red Cross, an inductee into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame, and recipient of the Boggs-Bourque Woman of Distinction Award given by former ambassador to the Vatican, Lindy Boggs. Additionally, for three consecutive years, she was the recipient of the New Orleans CityBusiness Women of the Year Award.

A 1980 graduate of Castleton State College with a degree in nursing, Scheerle was elected president of her graduating class. To develop further her leadership and business skills, Scheerle enrolled in Harvard Business School's executive program and completed the program in 1991.

Scheerle lives in New Orleans, Louisiana, with her husband, Bruce Bolyard. They have three daughters and one son.
