From the Closet to the Courtroom: Five LGBT Rights Lawsuits That Have Changed Our Nation
In From the Closet to the Courtroom: Five LGBT Rights Lawsuits That Have Changed Our Nation, Professor Carlos A. Ball showcases the stories of the lawyers, activists and defendants involved in moving America closer to granting full equality to LGBT individuals. Whether it's a landlord in New York seeking to evict a gay man from his home after his partner of 10 years dies of AIDS; school officials in Wisconsin turning a blind eye as a gay teenager is repeatedly and viciously harassed by other students; or a lesbian couple appearing unexpectedly at a clerk's office in Hawaii to obtain a marriage license, From the Closet to the Courtroom poignantly reveals how the U.S. legal system serves as a successful agent for social change.
Ball is a professor of law at Rutgers University School of Law - Newark. He is author of The Morality of Gay Rights and has received a Dukeminier Award from the Williams Institute at UCLA for excellence in the scholarship of sexual orientation and the law.
